LUKE STACK
Kelowna City Councillor
I have worked and lived in Kelowna for the last 28 years. My focus has been on developing housing for the non-profit sector of the economy. Prior to becoming a Councillor, I was also very active in the commuity serving on city committees, church boards and the Kelowna General Hospital board. I am the Executive Director of a community based organization, and in partnership with the provincial and federal governments, I have successfully negotiated the development of numerous housing projects in the Central Okanagan.
I earned a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of Calgary in 1980 and Property Management Diploma from the University of British Columbia Sauder School of Business in 2005.
When I asked people for support in the 2008 election I received these these endorsements: Luke is......
"a problem solver"
"a creative and strategic thinker"
"a person with integrity"
"experienced"
"thoughtful and fair."

It was an honor to attend this conference on behalf of the City of Kelowna. It was a well attended and a very active conference. The conference covered a wide range of pertinent issues that affect Kelowna and all Canadian Cities. We had the opportunity to tour the Olympic Venues, resident restricted affordable housing, the sewage treatment facilities ( which heats the affordabel housing complexes) and the library. This is picture of the Inukshuk at the top of Whistler Mountain, ready and waiting for the 2010 Olympic Games. This is a picture of the delegates in session. There were full translation services from french to english and visa versa. Sadly, I never learned to speak our second language in Canada so I depended upon the translation services provided.
The delegates debated several issus over the weekend. 1. Free Trade and whether Canada should impose trade restrictions on the United States if they continue to restrict Americans from buying Canadian products under the "American Recovery and Reinvestment Act." I voted to NOT impose restrictions on US/Canadian trade, but those that favored restrictions carried the day. In Favor 189 - Opposed 175 - Motion Carried. We also debated : 2. Action on guns, gangs and violence 3. National infrastructure funding 4. Employment insurace reform.
This is a picture of the athlete's village in Whistler. When the Olympics is over, there will be a legacy of affordable housing left for employees who work in Whistler. The Whistler Housing Authority has been working for thirty years to find creative ways to house employees who work at Whistler. By this time next year they will manage 800 units of affordable housing for Whistler employees. They will be able to achieve their goal of being able to house 75% of the work force for the Whistler Village. Clearly, an impressive achievement.
