I believe in inclusive zoning. Each neighborhood should have provisions for care-homes, affordable housing, open space, daycare services, public schools, commerce and shopping and be connected by roads. Zoning is an important tool that will encourage this integration.
The new Official Community Plan (OCP 2040) is now underway. Council is working to develop a relevant OCP for a sustainable Kelowna. This means a continued emphasis on developing vibrant town centers.
New development should be sensitively integrated to add value to existing neighborhoods. In attempts to densify we must be careful not to lose the sense of community many neighborhoods have established. It is a challenge to find the right balance.
